Summer Sermon Series: Great Stories of the Bible
What are your favorite Bible stories? Are you a fan of those old Sunday school favorites like Noah’s Ark, Moses at the Burning Bush and Jonah and the Whale? Do you like the melodrama of the stories of Joseph and his Brothers, or the trials and tribulations of King David? Or, perhaps you like the more obscure stories, like the Books of Ruth and Esther. Or the more challenging stories, like Job?
This summer, we’ll take a vacation from the regularly-scheduled readings of the Revised Common Lectionary and journey instead with Moses, Noah and all your favorite Bible characters with sermons about all of these great stories, and how they connect to the story God is living out in our lives today.
Worship will be kid-friendly, with activities and music (and maybe some more bubbles?), and our nursery will be open at 9:30 each morning for the little ones.
Speaking of summer – mine started early! I’ve already enjoyed a week of vacation, which was preceded by three fantastic days in Chicago at the Faith Forward Youth Ministry Conference, where I witnessed so many ways that God is moving young people through music, worship and living out their faith by making a difference in the world. In a few weeks, I’ll make my first visit to Camp Greenwood, when I take my daughters up for a week of “Music in the Woods” camp. I’m also look-ing forward to participating in my first Community VBS here in Paw Paw July 10 – 13, and then head-ing out with 23 other pastors and youth from the Presbytery of Lake Michigan on a trip to the Summer Youth Conference at Montreat July 15 - 22.
Add in a few more weeks of vacation, and it makes for one adven-turous and unpredictable summer!
